Dr. Tom Karr was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas. He attended Amarillo High School, Texas Tech University, and graduated from The University of Texas Dental School at San Antonio in 1984. He has been in private practice in Amarillo since 1984.

Dr. Tom Karr is the son of Dr. & Mrs. Carter E. Karr. Dr. Carter Karr was in private practice from 1961 until 1993, and now serves as Director of the Dental Clinic at the Clements Prison in Amarillo. Dr. Tom Karr's brother-in-law is also a dentist in Amarillo.


He attends Hillside Christian Church. He has been active in various community and civic organizations, including South Amarillo Kiwanis, The High Plains Epilepsy Association, Golden Spread Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and The American Diabetes Association.

Dr. Karr is Past-President of the Panhandle District Dental Society and a Delegate to the Texas Dental Association. He is Past-President of the Panhandle Chapter of the Texas Academy of General Dentistry. He served as President of the Texas Academy of General Dentistry in 2000-2001, and has the distinction of being the only dentist in the Panhandle to head this organization.

Dr. Karr received his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1996. One of the greatest honors Dr. Karr has achieved was when he was nominated for Texas Dentist of the Year in 1996.

His hobbies include tennis, running, and scuba diving. He keeps very busy raising 3 children and a black lab named Maggie.
